Focus is one of the world’s first autistic super heroes. Project Focus maintains dignity for autistic individuals by removing the stigma. Focus runs a free art camp. We champion special needs kids.

Certified Social Cultural Anthropologist and award-winning Artist Yvonne Wan, and Certified Art Teacher and award-winning Artist Douglas Hebert have created a special 5-week course for Tempe kids. The students will be provided free art education.

The kid’s art will be displayed online as part of an online art exhibit. There will also be a highlights film at the end of the course that showcases local autistic and special needs talent.

The five-week course provides a unique arts/culture opportunity for Tempe residents. It inspires and develop social and artistic skills of underrepresented artists and cultural groups. The course also builds community relations; meet a community need and expand participation through arts/culture.

Classes are every Saturday.

Group A: 2pm Every Saturday

Group B: 4pm Every Saturday

Week 1:

Title of the class: Focus loves Tempe: Part 1

Subtitle: One-point perspective Landscape drawing: Tempe Desert, Hole in the Rock and Highway.

Style: Japanese Kawaii Style (Cute)

Group Zoom Class Duration: 60 minutes.

Home work: 1 short assignment.

Each student also receives a one to one zoom class mid-week to receive feedback on their homework.

The students will learn about the beautiful natural environment that surrounds us in Tempe, plus a little bit about bio diversity. The students will learn how to draw kawaii (cute) style. They will learn how to draw landscapes from a one-point perspective, bio diversity and the art of depicting different facial expressions. The students will engage in transformative social and emotional learning.

Art material list: Pencil, A4 Printer paper, eraser, long and short ruler. Sharpener.

Week 2:

Title of the class: Focus loves Tempe: Part 2

Subtitle: Two point perspective Architectural drawing: Tempe City Hall: Beginners &Advance class

Style: Japanese Kawaii Style (Cute)

Group Zoom Class Duration: 60 minutes.

Home work: 1 short assignment.

Each student also receives a one to one zoom class mid-week.

The students will learn about the beautiful architectural building of Tempe City Hall. The students will learn how to draw kawaii (cute) style. They will learn how to draw buildings from a two-point perspective with a non-technical and technical approach. The students will engage in transformative social and emotional learning.

Art material list: Pencil, A4 Printer paper, eraser, long and short ruler. Sharpener.

Week 3:

Title of the class: Focus loves Tempe: Part 3

Subtitle: Super heroes and Villains. Character Design. Scale. Postures.

Style: Japanese Kawaii Style (Cute)

Group Zoom Class Duration: 60 minutes.

Home work: 1 short assignment.

Each student also receives a one to one zoom class mid week.

The students will learn how to draw Focus the autistic super hero, themselves as a super hero and a bank robber making his escape. The students will learn about drawing to scale, different postures, facial expressions; light and shadow. This class enriches the students understanding of self and identity. The students will learn how to draw kawaii (cute) style. The students will engage in transformative social and emotional learning.

Art material list: Pencil, A4 Printer paper, eraser, long and short ruler. Sharpener.

Please photo copy this completed art in time for the class commencing week 4.

Week 4:

Title of the class: Focus loves Tempe: Part 4

Subtitle: Image Transfer Techniques, Scale & Composition.

Style: Japanese Kawaii Style (Cute)

Group Zoom Class Duration: 60 minutes.

Home work: 1 short assignment.

Each student also receives a one to one zoom class mid week.

The students will learn how to apply image transfer techniques, scale and composition in class. Students will learn techniques that create the perception of distance and depth through scale and composition.  The students will engage in transformative social and emotional learning.

Art material list: Pencil, Original sketch from week 1. 2 Photo copies of student’s art produced in Week 3. Eraser, Sharpener. Scissors. Ball point pen. Regular Black Sharpie.

Week 5:

Title of the class: Focus loves Tempe: Part 5

Subtitle: Super heroes and villains in Tempe. Love conquers all! Inking and Coloring

Style: Japanese Kawaii Style (Cute)

Group Zoom Class Duration: 60 minutes.

Home work: 1 short assignment.

Each student also receives a one to one zoom class mid-week.

Art material list: Original sketch from week 4. Coloring Pencils, Eraser, Sharpener. Thick and thin black marker. Long and short ruler. Optional: White gelly roll pen. Derwent blender and burnisher pencil.
